Bob Barker on Letterman Last Night....

I just saw this video on Yahoo! and thought I'd pass it along. Letterman's Top Ten was the top 10 things that Bob Barker can say now that he's retiring... I'll list them here, they are funny!

10. "We get the prizes cheap because they're stolen."

9. "The actual retail price of the retirement watch CBS gave me...$17.95."

8. "Before we give them away, I personally try out every Hot Tub."

7. "Slip daddy some cash and the showcase showdown wheel lands where ever you want."

6. "Sleeping in 'till noon and playing golf all day, come on down."

5. "Howie Mandell may be a younger game show host, but at least I still have my hair."

4. "I only wish Regis were alive to see this."

3. "On my last show I'm going to tell people to go neuter themselves."

2. "I'm not only a game show host, I'm also Spider-Man."

1. "Some older people have the good sense to retire....unlike Letterman."

I laughed out loud when I saw this, thought you might as well.

Rob Join's the Blogging Community...

My brother-in-law Rob finally joins the blogging community. I added him to the friend's site links (which I'm sure Tammi hasn't done yet - you have to at least have 1 post per week for at least 2 years to get your link on her site! Not here on R&R!). Listen you've got to check his site out! He's got some great posts here is a taste:

What to post about?
What's on your Ipod?

This is just a taste. This guy really knows what to say when everyone is listening... Like this:

Cavs...different night same result...

This has to be my dumbest post...Welcome to net Rob

Charity altogether good for you!

I just read this article on Yahoo! It seems to say what we already know, but I always find those things interesting. He is a clip:

Knowing your money is going to a good cause can activate some of the same pleasure centers in your brain as food and sex, U.S. researchers said on Thursday.

People who participated in a study got a charge knowing that their money went to a charity -- even when the contribution was mandatory, like a tax. They felt even better when they voluntarily made a donation, researchers found.

Ulrich Mayr, a psychology professor at the University of Oregon, said the research sheds light on the nature of altruism and could help people feel better about being taxed.

"It shows that in an ideal world you could have a tax situation where you could be a satisfied taxpayer," said Mayr, whose study appeared in the journal Science.

In the study, Mayr and two economists gave 19 women volunteers $100 each and then tracked their brain activity in a functional magnetic resonance imaging scanner.

The women were shown their money automatically being transferred from their account to a local food bank.

When the money reached the food bank account, it activated portions of the brain -- the caudate nucleus and the nucleus accumbens -- known for pleasure. The effect was even greater when the people got to choose to give the money away.

Verlander with a No Hitter!

So while I was at Cedar Point, Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers throws the first no hitter by a Detroit pitcher in Detroit since 1952!

I'm impressed, but what is even better is that with that win the Tigers move into a tie with Cleveland for first place!

Cedar Point

So we took the Senior High to Cedar Point yesterday and we had a blast. It took forever to get into the park because of the long lines at the group sales counter, but we still had a blast.

The crazy thing was that Tayshaun Prince and Rasheed Wallace of the Detroit Pistons were there! We were on our way to ride the Iron Dragon (I know it's not the most glamorous ride), and the guy sitting at the front of the line said that they had just walked by. I gave my cell phone number out to all the teens before we went into the park and I was getting phone calls all day from people telling me that they had seen these guys. I was really getting bummed because I was the Detroit fan, and I wasn't getting to see these guys (Shari saw them on three different occasions). Finally it was the end of the night and we were trying to gather up all of the teens. And who would walk by Tayshaun and Rasheed within 5 feet and all of their family and their bodyguards and publicists. It was a beautiful thing!

Anyway the trip was pretty good we only had one problem that needed to be dealt with, and that's pretty good considering we had 26 students.

Movie Review...Ocean's 13

Well, just saw Ocean's 13 tonight (after our try last night) and we got through it with no problems.

Well, it was true to the Las Vegas feel of the 11 and the unorganized (yet organized) plot of 12. It made sense and it was original in the storyline. But lets be honest how many things that "can't be done" can there be? You have to reinvent the wheel, you can't just make the same thing work over and over again. The crazy thing is that I loved it. The same things work for me. I like it! It was entertaining! I watched 2:20:00 worth of a movie and was entertained from beginning to end. I was excited for Linus and loved watching Brad Pitt eat (thanks for that one Jacob).

4 out of 5 stars.

Leslie's Movies V

It is interesting that movie number "V" was V for Vendetta. This was an interesting little flick. I think I'll need to watch it again to get everything I can out of it. What I liked about it was the anitbrickworld themes in the movie. I loved the push against extreme religion. Being a pastor it sounds a little weird for me to say that I liked a movie against organized religion, but what really stood out were the themes of justice and choice as opposed to fear and dictatorship.

I think I'll give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Waiting on 7

We taking this trip to Poland in a couple of weeks, and we are only waiting on 7 out of 13 passports! What a year to plan a foreign missions trip! Here is an article from Fox News.

Local Youth Pastor Gets Kicked Out of Theatre

How about that headline Justin? So, it wasn't that dramatic. Shari and I went to the theatre to go and see Oceans 13 tonight and much to our chagrin the lights went out just 6 minutes before the movie was going to start. We were sitting in the threatre being completely entertained by the guys behind us playing "flashlight tag" with there cell phones. A police officer comes in and tells us that a power transformer went out and that we probably wont get to see our movie. 5 minutes later a theatre employee comes in to tell us to leave. We can come back anytime and show them our ticket stub and get in to see another movie of our choice, but I really wanted to see Ocean's 13 tonight. What's funny is that they still have my money and that even though I haven't seen the movie, my dollars will count towards movie's totals.

Who knows maybe we'll go tomorrow night!

Brake Pads...

Just replaced the brake pads on our car today for the 3rd time since we moved to Indiana (3rd time in less than a year). I'm a little upset, and if we have to do this again, lifetime warranty!

Jacob Tyler Wolfgang

So, I finally got Jacob and Sarah in for a concert. I was so pumped and so were several of the teens. Jacob and Sarah came up to help us out with worship at our winter retreat, Reality Check, and they also did a concert of his original music for us (I missed it, all part of being a youth pastor). Anyway they came on Wednesday and we video taped it and recorded it. We've got all the stuff, and we needed the practice of it, so now we have the raw footage, and hopefully soon Jacob will have video from that show on his website!

Thanks guys for coming out and doing the show!

SGC Youth Cafe

So we had this great idea to start a cafe in our youth room. The idea was to get a bunch of concessions style food and drink and sell it at youth events and activities, and take any profits and give it to missions. These kids bring so much to youth group anyway, I thought it would be a lot better way for the youth to do something other than line the pockets of someone else.

Well, we did no advertising, at Jacob and Sarah's concert we opened it and we made $3.50! What a good night! I'm sure it will only go up from there.

Jacob and Sarah

You know it interesting if I were to drive a little ways (440 miles) down the road (I-80) I would eventually run into Des Moines, IA, and near there is where my brother and sister-in-law live. Now I don't know why it seems so infrequent that we get to see each other, but it seems rare. Although, when making trips to Lansing Jacob often stops for a day or even for lunch. Its quite fun. I absolutely love it when they stop by. Well, they just left yesterday morning. They did a concert for a youth group night at church on Wednesday (I'll blog about this later). But it was really nice to see them again.

Thanks for coming guys...I know its our turn to drive the dreaded 440!

Personal Story

So I asked the Poland team to write down their personal stories, testimonies, for our trip. I told them I would go first and I did. So here is my personal story. Let me know what you think. Even you Mom!

My life before Christ
Growing up in a little town with two younger brothers we had plenty of opportunities to get into trouble. I had a family who knew God and what he could do. My dad would take my brothers and I to church every Sunday morning and most evening services. My parents loved me, and supported me. They took care of me and provided for all of my needs.

How I met Christ
While always being at church, my entire social life was consumed with church activities. One Sunday morning our teacher in the children’s church program asked if anyone would like to “accept Jesus Christ as their savior”. I raised my hand really not knowing what I was doing. Several of us went into a back room and there another teacher explained that we all do bad things – remembering some of the things that my brothers and I would do – I quickly realized that I had done quite a few bad things. He also told us that those bad things are called sin. He showed from the Bible that all people sin and how they can’t have a relationship with God because of it. It even says that those who sin deserve eternal death. He then started talking about this man named Jesus and how Jesus was God and that Jesus died and three days later came back to life to cover for our sin so that we could have a relationship with him.

That day I asked Jesus to come into my life and cover for my sin. I asked him to save me from eternal death; I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior, so that I could have a forever relationship with God.

My life since I met Christ
Since I met Christ I’ve had a focus. I really try my best to learn as much about Jesus as I possibly can. I learned that he desires for me to be like him. So, I try my best and with his help I am becoming more and more like he is. Life is not perfect, but it seems better than those who don’t have this relationship. I’ve also committed my life to share this story with people. I want people to have what I have from Jesus.

So, I have never posted more than I did in the month of May! Kudos to me. I hope your enjoying. What your reading and being pointed towards.

Leslie's Movies IV - Fever Pitch

So, what half-way decent baseball fan will forget the year the Red Sox won the WS? This was an amazing year! I hate the Red Sox, and a true Tigers' fan, but who in there right mind could forget about coming back form 3 games down in game 4 of the ALCS and then winning the series? I did like the love story as it intertwined throughout the season. That was very enjoyable. Overall I'd have to say that I was more entranced with the story of the Red Sox more that I was with the Guy and Girl. Maybe its the inner sports guy, but that's where I am.

Join the Hunt!

Just found this...don't ask me how I found this. Here is a webcam of Loch Ness in a search for the Loch Ness Monster. Remember that they are 5 hours ahead of us.

Leslie's Movies III - Take the Lead

Again I'm not the biggest fan of Antonio Bandaris. In fact I really didn't like Puss in Boots from Shrek.

I liked this one, it was a wonderful picture of redemption and grace. I really enjoyed it.

3.5 out of 5 stars

Leslie's Movies II - Music and Lyrics

For all of you Hugh Grant fans...finally something to compare to Notting Hill. Beautful and engaging and amzingly funny romantic comedy. I must say that when Shari showed me that she had picked out this movie to watch I wasn't really that impressed by it. I wasn't looking forward to it and I really didn't want to watch it when she picked it up last night. I was completely surprised when we started to watch it. It was awesome!

4.5 out of 5 stars.

Its nice to have you back Hugh!

Ryan and Andrea

Just had a great Memorial Day weekend. Ryan flew down again (two weekends in a row) and this time he stopped in Grand Rapids and picked up our friend Andrea. We had a great time. It was so nice to see old friends again. I hope you guys come down again real soon.

thanks guys

Leslie's Movies - The Holiday

So, our friend Leslie let us borrow several of her movies, some that I have always want to see or didn't want to see in the theatres. So I thought that I would give them the honor of writing about them. Here we go...

The first Leslie movie we saw was The Holiday. Kate Winslett and Cameron Diaz switch houses for the Christmas season to get away from negative relationships and wind up finding new ones. It was cute and friendly but not all that believable. But I think that is the point, writers say, "let make a story that is just outside of reality", because I think that's where American audiences live, just outside of reality.

Overall The Holiday get 2 out of 5 stars from me. I wouldn't buy it.

More Flying Pics...

As promised more pics of Elkhart County from above...

This is our house, well, at least the right half of the blue house is where we live...

This is the backside of the church

We did a touch and go at the South Bend airport and the landing path took us right over Notre Dames Football Stadium.

We had a great time! Thanks Ryan!

Heroes Season One!

Oh Man!

I really enjoyed Volume One of Heroes. It kept me in enough suspense to keep watching. I really enjoyed the premise and the originality of the series. I know it critics say that it is too much like the X-Men, but no there is something different there. There is something more. The philosophy behind it is more. I'm not sure I can put my finger on it yet, but maybe soon. Hopefully this is a show that will be around for years to come. I think they can come up with some very interesting story lines. The first season took place over a 6 week time span (it ended on November 8th, 2006). Some of the characters just met for the first time in the last episode. These people have just discovered that they are powerful, and that they can do many good things over time.

Well, I'm looking forward to Volume Two. a couple of teasers in the show were Molly saying there is someone that can see her when she thinks about him and Hiro being sent back in time to 17th century Japan. Can't wait!

Season One on DVD August 28th!

Overhead!

So, Ryan flew down and took Shari and I for a ride in the plane. Here is a shot of our church from above.

There will be more soon!

Umm...Over Their Heads?

So I had my students do this activity yesterday morning. They had to look at four passages that mentions the Day of the Lord and write down some descriptions about it. It didn't go over to well I even had leaders struggle. So, I'll do it really fast and see what I think.

Joel 2:28-3:3
The sun and moon will turn to blood.
People will unjustly party.
People will prophesy.
Bloodshed.

Amos 5:18-27
It will be of darkness and not light.
It will be one bad thing after another.
It will be a time of hopelessness, and suffering.
Worshipping God may be futile.

Obadiah 15
God will judge the godless nations.

Malachi 4:1-6
Fire will consume the wicked.

Was it over their heads? I don't know. I can't remember the last time I was led through a study in the minor prophets.

Heroes: Origins

Here is another article, a lot better article.

Heroes: Origins

Ok, not too excited about this. I love Heroes, but this new spin-off, Heroes: Origens, doesn't look that great. It features a possible Heroes character than fans vote for this character to be on season 3. Not really excited for it. Eh, but who knows.

The Bible...For Adults Only?

I just read this article on Fox News and laughed out loud. I say let them put the ban on it. More kids will probably read it that way anyway!

Cavemen

Cavemen is one of the new shows that ABC is plotting for this upcoming fall. The show is based on the Geico commercials. I don't know. I don't think I'll pay any attention to it!

Spider-Man 3

So, its been a week, I feel that I can let my honest opinion about the movie out without feeling guilty about spoiling the movie to you faithful readers, (caution: spoilers ahead!)

I liked it. I didn't love it, but I liked it. I feel as though they packed too much into this one film. Plotline summery:
  • Peter Parker and Mary Jane fight
  • Ben Parker's true killer, Flint Marko, is revielled and escapes to find that his daughter's sick.
  • He winds up caught in the middle of the Particle Physics Experiment and his DNA becomes infused with sand - Sandman.
  • Peter Parker starts to wear the Black suit of the Marsian Symbiote.
  • Peter becomes dark - vengful
  • He then creates a competitor of Eddie Brock at the paper.
  • A lot of revenge situations take place.
  • There is a lot about the Mary Jane/Peter Parker relationship (they get married eventually - and divorsed).
  • Peter loses the symbiote and it comes to Eddie Brock - who now hates Peter Parker - Eddie then becomes Venom (even though the name Venom only appears in the ending credits.
  • A lot happens with Harry Osborn
  • Mary Jane gets kidnapped by Venom and Sandman (who have now teamed up - possible sinister six reference)
  • Peter and Harry fight Venom and Sandman
  • Peter kills the symbiote and Eddie kills himself by running towards the symbiote when Peter blows it up.
  • Peter lets Sandman go - Forgives him for killing his uncle Ben.

Ok, here we go. I don't think they should have killed Venom. I felt that it would have been better to set up Venom in Spider-Man 4 so as to develop the character. I felt as though the ending should have been the fight with Sandman. And when everything is over there be a scene of Venom webslinging. I felt as though by killing Venom that the possible storylines of Carnage and Toxin have disappeared from all hopes of becoming a movie.

All in all though, I thought it was better than most people are saying it was. I definately thought that you couldn't do 7 Spider-Man movies without doing the Venom storyline. What I like about Spider-Man is the inner conflict that Peter has. Struggling with what is right and what is easy. Using his new found ability to help others, and taking care of people. I love that real aspect to the character, and I love that they brought it to the movies.

Movie Rating: B-

Of Wine and Heaven

I just listened to this sermon by Rob Bell yesterday and found it truly compelling. When thinking of the end times we rarely think about what the Old Testament says and we rarely think about what the original authors frame of reference was.

This is the link to the Mars Hill website's podcast link. The teaching is called Wine and Heaven.

More and More

So, I am writing a teaching series through the book of I Thessalonians and I am working through chapter four, and I stumbled onto something a little interesting. Chapter four has three parts (verses 1-8, 9-12, and 13-18). In 1-8 Paul is talking about how the people of Thessalonica are living like Christ, but - in verse one - should do it more and more, and then talks about how sexual immorality can screw that up. In 9-12 Paul is talking about how good these people are at loving each other as siblings, but - in verse ten - that they should do it more and more. In 13-18 (this is the classic reference for rapture theology) Paul describes the return of Christ like a 1st century wedding. Everything that Christ does in those verses is what the Bride-groom would do. There would be a trumpet call and loud shouting and then the groom would come to the bride. I believe in a marriage relationship it doesn't just start and never move or progress. In fact it is in constant movement - hopefully forward! Paul is telling these people to have a relationship with God. He wants their relationship with God to be more and more. I find this fascinating! And all to often we rip it out of context and make it say what we want it to say.

I just attended a funeral for a three year old...

Can I just say one thing...awkward.

That's what it was, awkward. Death shouldn't come so young. Death shouldn't seem so real. Death shouldn't be. I didn't know the boy, I've never met him. I knew the family. Keegan had an uncle, Chad, who is in the youth group. So I came to show my support to the family. The funeral was awkward - in the most respectful way possible.

I wondered down the hall from my office to the sancuary just moments before the funeral was to start. I found a seat, and seconds later a coworker sat next to me. We don't normally spend a lot of time together - awkward. It was cold, I don't know if it was emotions or the air conditioning was up to high, but it was awkward. The oranist played, "Jesus Loves Me" followed directly by "Jesus Loves the Little Children." Both seem obvious choices for a funeral of a child, but somehow out of place - awkward. Just into the second stanza of "'Jesus Loves the Little Children" a baby near the back started to cry loud enough that it would be appropriate for the mother to take him out, but from somewhere it felt good to hear. It was ok. She took her son into the foyer to comfort him and attend to his needs, but some how some way I felt as though it would be a good idea to tell her to stop, the baby's cry felt good - awkward. I didn't say anything, I couldn't speak. It felt wrong to speak. Seconds later the funeral director asked us to sit closer together so that more people could fit - awkward. Just then a tiny casket - awkward - came rolling into the room followed by many family members. It was the exact opposite of a wedding. All the people were of all ages, heights, weights, and used various means of walking (i.e. canes, wheelchairs, others shoulders) their walk was awkward. Just then the organist played "It is Well with My Soul" - awkward - a good song, and seemly would fit knowing the history of the song, but still - awkward.

I could go on and on, but just to say that it didn't feel right, and it shouldn't have. Death is so unnatural, and so against everything that God does and is that it can't be good.

Serving with Eyes Wide Open

Just finished Serving with Eyes Wide Open by David Livermore. This is a book about our approach to Short-term missions. I am particularly intrigued with this subject because I am leading a trip to Poland this summer with a bunch of 10th - 12th grade students. I am looking forward to it, but the more I read Livermore's book I realized that I was enabling them. I wasn't giving them the tools to succeed, but rather giving them the short simplified answers that I think that they need to get the job done right (whatever that means). I always love a good book that will change my perspective on a subject.

I want to read books that will blow me away, not books that will just support what I all ready know. I want to read books that will blow me away by supporting what I already know. This book did just that. It took the passion I have to see the world as the kingdom and practically showed me how I can teach that to my students while on a short-term missions trip.

Thanks Dr. Livermore

Jacob Tyler Wolfgang

So Jacob just finished recording his new albumn a few weeks ago, and he has some of the music up on his MySpace (not to be confused with ThySpace). You can also purchase the cd for only $5.49 here!
Jacob is coming to Goshen to do a show at Youth Group on June 6th. He did our worship for our winter retreat this past January and the students here seemed to really like Jacob and his music. He did a show for us on Saturday Night and students were waltzing to his famous Philosophy Waltz.
So, check the CD out! Let me know what you think! I personally enjoy Sarah's vocals on the Bless Our Burning Heart!
Great Job guys.

ThySpace

ThySpace is a version of MySpace created solely for Bob Jones University Students, check this quote out!

ThySpace will be launched this fall at the beginning of the 2007-2008 academic year and will only be available and accessible to Bob Jones students on campus. Students will be able to customize there own home page and list their favorite classes at Bob Jones, their favorite Bob Jones III quote, their favorite Bob Jones choir music that they like to listen to, and their favorite food at the Bob Jones Dining Common. In addition, students may post pictures of themselves so long as they were taken on the campus of the university, and they may regularly blog about the things they have learned during Sunday AM services at the Founders' Memorial Apithorium."What this will do is increase our community." Said Jones. "You take a good idea, like MySpace, and you tweak it just a bit and you get what we have here with ThySpace."The site will be free to use by all campus students, and will be monitored by the school's staff to avoid any inappropriate remarks being made. Furthermore, under no circumstances may students of the opposite sex add each other as friends."We're here to show the world that we at Bob Jones University can be old fashioned and yet use new things." Said Jones. "But we're not going to compromise though. We're here to stand in the gap and show the world how Christians should live."

Catholic Thoughs?!?

So I just found this article on Fox News and I was intrigued by it so greatly I wanted to hear your opinions on it.

Here are a few highlights:

Hell is a place where sinners really do burn in an everlasting fire, and not just a religious symbol designed to galvanize the faithful, the Pope said.

The pope, who as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was head of Catholic doctrine, noted that "forgiveness of sins" for those who repent was a cornerstone of Christian belief. He recalled that Jesus had forgiven the "woman taken in adultery" and prevented her from being stoned to death, observing: "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

God had given men and women free will to choose whether "spontaneously to accept salvation ... the Christian faith is not imposed on anyone, it is a gift, an offer to mankind."

Thoughts?

I'm curious. Albeit it sounds Arminian - but still prodestant!

Placing Bible Teaching Back into Schools...

Time has this article up on its website and I found it interesting and I thought that I would share it with all of you! Enjoy! Here are a few sinipits...

By which she meant an official attendance roll. Because the day was Thursday, not Sunday. And the location was not Oakwood Baptist Church, a mile down Texas State Highway 46, but New Braunfels High School, a public school that began offering a Bible-literacy class last fall. The class has its share of conservative Christians. Front-row center sat Rachel Williams, 18, whose mother does teach Sunday school at Oakwood. But not 20 ft. away sat a blond atheist who asked that her name not be used because she hasn't outed herself to her parents. Why take a Bible class? I asked her. "Some of my friends are Christian," she said, shrugging, "and they would argue about, like, whether you can be a Christian and believe in evolution, and I'm like, Okaaaay ... clueless." Williams signed up for a similar reason. "If somebody is going to carry on a sophisticated conversation with me, I would rather know what they're talking about than look like a moron or fight my way through it," she says. The class has "gotten a lot of positive feedback," she adds. "It's going to really rise in popularity."

The same might be said about public-school courses on the Bible nationwide. There aren't that many. But they're rising in popularity. Last year Georgia became the first state in memory to offer funds for high school electives on the Old and New Testaments using the Bible as the core text. Similar funding was discussed in several other legislatures, although the initiatives did not become law. Meanwhile, two privately produced curriculums crafted specifically to pass church-state muster are competing for use in individual schools nationwide. Combined, they are employed in 460 districts in at least 37 states. The numbers are modest, but their publishers expect them to soar. The smaller of the two went into operation just last year but is already into its second 10,000-copy printing, has expressions of interest from a thousand new districts this year and expects many more. The larger publisher claims to be roughly doubling the number of districts it adds each year. These new curriculums plus polls suggesting that over 60% of Americans favor secular teaching about the Bible suggest that a Miss Kendrick may soon be talking about Matthew in a school near you.

Justin I particularly wondered if you had any thoughts here!

Underwear Work

So today Shari has a doctor's appointment and I thought about it and I decided that it wasn't worth running back and forth to work all morning so I'm staying home this morning and working. You know it's kind of nice. I don't have to hear the phone ring every 30 seconds and it's really quiet. Well, I hope I can get some stuff done.

A New Way to Look at Jesus...

So I've recently reading books that challenge the things I've been taught about Jesus. No, not anything heretical (i.e. God-Man, death/burial/ressurection - I'm still with you on these things), but things about his ministry. Things that I think we often miss.

Philosophical/Theological Rant
Our modern view of Jesus and the Bible has only put him and it in a box. I mean we don't even let the bible speak for itself when it comes to the text. We find this need to split it up to explain away any so-called "inconsistancies" only because we miss the big picture.

Back on Task
The Bible is one big and very cool story. Jesus' message of caring for people isn't a new concept! Creation was very good as God proclaimed, and then we screwed it up - and we continue to screw it up. But God entered the world through a family (Israel), and began to redeem it. He began to mold it and change it and shape this sinful, chaotic place into something completely different - in fact opposite of what it was. He was making it beautiful and good again!

Jesus comes along and he's preaching the same message. The message of God turning this place back into something good. The message of hope for this earth. The message of people doing extraordinary things to help overturn the cart and make this sinful, chaotic place beautiful and full of order.

Why don't we do that? Why don't we get involved and make this place beautiful? Why don't we make this place wonderful?

Things are completely different than they were in Jesus' day. I really don't live in fear of my life everyday, like some do. I don't need to worry about where I am going to live or food on my table. My basic needs are covered. I don't even worry about the our country being attacked and overthrown and occupied. I don't have to worry about those things. Don't you think that has something to do with Jesus' message?

I'm still thinking about this and I'm not sure where I'll land.

Book of Questions Journal

So a while ago I purchased some material for the students here and one of them caught my eye. It was a questions journal. It has a new question every day, and you take some time to answer it and I thought that I would take a few minutes and answer today's on here.

Q: What is God's will for your life today?

A: God's will for my life today is to be obedient! I need to trust God in all I do! I need to obey him fully. Wednesdays are teh busiest day of my week and I need to get several things done today esspecially with the Poland Trip Sunday Morning Service this coming Sunday. But God's will for my life today is not a to-do list. I don't have to perform for God in that way. God's will for my life it to obey him! How can I obey him more today than I did yesterday?

Sex God

I just finished reading Rob Bell's new book - Sex God, and it was absolutely fantastic. I had a chance to sit down with Nate Dawson, yes Mom it is who you're thinking it is, and he first told me about the new book. Nate is one of Rob Bell's Disciples as well as a community Pastor at Mars Hill. He told me that this book was about how we live in a society that is under sexed. Meaning that sex is around us all the time (advertising, magazines, tv, the internet, etc.), but we don't see anything about true sex in our society. We are under sexed because the true meaning of sex is not being shown.

I honestly felt as though that was a little bit of a stretch. I welcome your opinion, but I think that it could have been better stated that we misunderstand the definition of intimacy. Rob told the stories of several people he has come into contact with that are deeply connected to a program, people group, ministry, or way of life and came to the conclusion that these people are sexually connected to their particular program, peapole group, ministry, or way of life. I guess I would say that they are intimately connected, or deeply connected. Much in the same way that a husband should be connected to his wife intimate.

Right out of the gate we get to here that if we talk about "this (sex)" we have to talk about "That (God)." Which is so true. It really isn't possible to discuss sex without talking about God. They are so deeply connected. Sex is such a spiritual act because God designed it!

All in all I liked it better that Velvet Elvis. It was well thought out and deeply moving. It brought things concerning my spirituality that I had not considered. It challenged me to be more and more connected to my wife.

Rob again challenged me to rethink my Christianity. Which is something that we will never completely figure out, so we should be constantly rethinking Christianity.

Thank you Rob for developing resourses that thouroughly challenge us to deeper faith, and deeper relationships.

Well, I'm Back - Hopefully

So this blog has been full of holes for as long as its been around. I believe that we have hit year number 3 of the blog and I'll bet that I have taken at least 4 more than one month hiatus' from posting. But I know that there are those out there who still check. And I know that there is a brother of mine who has the rss set-up to check. Anyway. Here we go - I'm back. You can probably look for a site change to come soon.

11 - Do Not Call

So of course we move to Goshen and we have to get a new phone number. So we finally found a plan and deal that we liked so we got it and had it installed. And for whatever reason we didn't get on the do not call list. We never did in Grand Rapids why would would think about it now. Well, apparently everyone is on the Do Not Call list because they only had one person to call. I swear the Goshen News called everyday! And we get the paper! Its enough to drive you nuts.

Praise God for the Do Not Call registry.

10 - A Day At The Lake (House)

We really didn't have much planned for today. We are having a few people over on Monday for a BBQ, so we decided that it would be a good day to clean. Well, around 11:30 am we got a call from a family inviting us to spend the afternoon with them at their lake house. It didn't take too much convincing, (clean or lake house...hmmm).

Needless to say we spent the day playing games, and having good conversations on the lake. It was a wonderful time. We took Scooter with us, we didn't want to leave him at home and it was probably too much for the little guy. I don't think he knew what to do with the 6 year old who wanted his attention all day. Shari and I had a great day, but I don't think that Scooter did.

I was a good day!

9 - Six years ago today

So, 6 years ago today I asked Shari out and she said yes. She didn't say no like she did two weeks before, but she said yes!!!

I love you baby!

8 - No JRT

So, we didn't get a JRT, but we did get Scooter.

Check out Shari's Site.

7 - Heroes

So, I haven't been an NBC fan since the NBA left for ABC, but for some unknown reason I happened to see a teaser for the new drama called Heroes. It seems to be an X-Men, wanna be, with people discoving that they are the next step in the evolutionary process of man. Well, even though I don't like the premise (like the X-Men) I can't wait for the show to start.

I've been wanting a drama that I could get into for such a long time...I never cought the Lost bug, not a CSI fan, or Law and Order. Nothing really catches me. I just want something more than reality TV, hopefully this is it.

The other night we had a bunch of Senior Highers over and asked them if they had a super power what would it be, most of them said something about flying.

I'm not so sure, my favoriate X-Men is Gambit (who never made the movies), his power was to be able to give things energy when he touched something it would explode, but he could control it - unlike Rogue.

What would your super power be?

6 - My Tigers

So, I've finally decided to post about my Detroit Tigers. When we were in Europe the Tigers surged into first place. You know they haven't lost that position yet, and most of that time have held onto the best record in baseball. If your not a baseball fan let me tell you why this is so amazing...

Three years ago they had the worst record in American League history (well, they tied). They lost 119 games!

They were the laughing stock of baseball. But they've turned it around and are playing like they've always should have been here.

I love my Tigers. I really hope this isn't just a one year deal, but that its something that lasts for a long time.

5 - Rant on Comments

So living up to the name of this little space on the net I want to rant about some people who check the site, but do not leave comments on anything... I can tell where people are in the world when they get on my site...

Let's see...if I list your city or state you're going to have to comment...

Burnsville, Minnisota - Mom, I know that you are checking up on me and not leaving comments...

Linden, Michigan

Mitchell, South Dakota

Rockford, Michigan

Belmont, Michigan

So, if you'll just own up that you check the place out every once in a while then the world will be a better place...

4 - Three Movie Night

So Shari and I were feeling like we needed a break and some time together, so Saturday night we spent the day at the movie theatre. There is a cheap theatre that shows movies that have already made it out of other theatres. So we saw Click, then we saw Devil Wears Prada, and then The Break Up.

All of which were only $2 per ticket. It was a really nice way to see some movies that we've wanted to see and not have to pay for them.

3 - Secret Generations

Last night Shari and I were in Target - in a hurry - and she asks me to go and find her some deorderant. Of course I found the Secret Generations line on clearence so I went right for that. I started smelling each and everyone one of them and noticed something very interesting each smelt like women in my life whose teenage years were of that decade.

50's - Grandma Wolfgang
60's - Aunt Rhonda Smith
70's - Mom
80's - Vanessa
90's - Shari
Now - Girls in the youth group

I never knew that I had such a great sense of smell.

2 - JRT

So, Shari and I have wanted a pet for a very long time. We both love dogs. We've wanted a dog for a very long time but the problem is we don't agree on what kind of dog to get. There is a pet store at the mall near by and we went yesterday and looked at dogs.

Ever since we visited Shari's aunt Dee and played with her Jack Russell Terrier, Brooster, I fell in love with the breed. I think that I would love them. They are very energetic and crazy, but I think with as many people who are in and out of our house that wont be a problem. I also thought that Eddie (Frazier) was awesome!

What do you think?

1 - So I Feel....

Vanessa ccnvenently asked if there was peace in Goshen, IN. I don't know. I don't think so. Is the world of Goshen, IN the way its supposed to be? No. Most of you have no idea what I'm talking about, so...

It was Saturday and one of the families of the church invited us to go boating with them on a lake in Michigan, so we went. We were out all afternoon, and had a great time. We got off of the lake at 7:30pm and I noticed that I had missed 9 phone calls. I know that I'm not that popular, when I finally got in range for my voice mail it was 7:45. I wont elaborate on all of the phone calls, but I will say that the majority of them were saying that something tragic happened and that there was an emergency Elder Board meeting at 8:00 pm. So I went right to the church, and I was met my our Assimilation Pastor who told me that our Senior Pastor had resigned, effective immediately. My first thought was that I didn't have all of my boxes unpacked yet.

So about a week ago now, my senior pastor resigned...That's right...I've been here for 7 weeks and he resigns. I was angry. I was hurt. I put on a good face, and struggled on the inside.

This past weekend Shari and a bunch of ladies went to the Women of Faith Conference, our former Senior Pastor's Wife went too. Friday morning before she left Shari came to the office with me to help me with somethings. And our former Senior Pastor came into the office. I didn't get a chance to talk to him, but Shari did. And even though I adamantly told her no, she talked to him about coming over while she and his wife were gone that he and I could spend some time together. She told him that I was going to call later and that he should expect it.

I was mad. But what was I going to do...I called. As soon as I called I wasn't angry anymore.

Some have said that I was justifiably angry. Some consoled me by saying that they would be angry in that situation. Some...

I was wrong in my anger. Something that God has been teaching me for sometime now.

I apologized to him about the anger I had. It felt really good to let him know that. We ended up having a really great conversation and watching a good movie together.

My wonderful wife forced me to do what I didn't want to do, she knew what would happen if I did, and she made me do it. She forced me. Thank you so much baby. I love you.

Is there peace...No...But we're closer...

14 days...

So, I haven't posted in a month. I'm not sure why I haven't posted in a month maybe because there is so much going on, but that's not true. Yes, my world has been turned upside down but I have still had time in which I could write. So here it is 14 days. I covenant with my readers, few and far between, who have all probably left, that I will post 14 times in the next 14 days.

Mid East Peace?

I realize that I haven't been around as long as some, but I thought that I would write something of my thoughts about my feeling of what is happening in the middle east.

One of the first comments I made concerning Israel at war was that it was nice to see God at work. I enjoyed seeing God's people victorious. That thought almost makes me sick now. Not the fact that God is at work, but that death is a part of what is happening and that I was excited about it.

Death and destruction are not part of God's ultimate plan. Unfortunately death is used to get to that ultimate end. I have heard Christians in the past couple of days say things like, "wow it looks like we might be witnessing the fullfillment of prophesy!" Have you ever read Revelation - do you really want to see those things happen? Of course we want to see Jesus return and set up his kingdom, but do we really want to egg on the death and destruction.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I don't want to get caught up in an "is this the end times" discussion when we should be focused on living according to the way.

What!?!? Everything that Happened and then some.

So it's been a while since I wrote on here, let me give you a little run down on what has been happening in our lives since the last time I blogged.

6/11/06
We canidated at Sugar Grove Church in Goshen, IN for a Youth Pastor Position. It was great! We had such a wonderful time, the people were friendly! We loved it. It was also our 1 year anniversary. I love you Baby! What a place to celebrate your 1st anniversary, Goshen, IN!

6/18/06
We received word that the church voted in favor of us, and Shari and I couldn't wait to get started.

6/25/06
This was our first Sunday at SGC and it was pretty cool. The church held its VBS closing program in which 600 people. Showed up to. That' about 250 visitors! That is crazy!

7/1/06
Went back to Ithaca Baptist for my brother Jacob's wedding reception. It was really nice to see people again. I wish though that my other brother Justin could have made it.

7/8/06
Shari and I tagged along on a youth missions trip to New Orleans. This was an excellent time to serve and to get to know some of the teens in the youth group. We had a good time helping the people down there. Please don't forget to pray for those who are still suffering down there (some haven't touched there houses since last August when Katrina hit).

7/19/06
Shari and I moved into a temporary place across the street from the place we will move into in two weeks.

Wow! A lot has happened in the past two months. Sorry for not blogging in a while. I'll be sure to write on here more often.

We Made it Back!

After an 18 1/2 hours of travel...We are now back in the States!

Germany
The entire reason we went to Europe was for my brother Jacob's wedding. There are a ton of pics to look at. It was a beautiful wedding and a beautiful day for a wedding (It rained for 10 minutes - but it rained everyday while we were in Europe for at least a half-hour, except for our last day). Here are some links to pictures (Shari's are on there, but not my mom's - yet).

Germany Wedding

This is the photographers Website he is supposed to do more that just the front page soon, but it is a very cool shot!

The Hopeful

We spent a couple of extra days in the Frankfurt area, and besides taken a wonderful 3 hour walk through some beautiful vineyards up to a monastery that produces wine translated means "The Wine of Heaven" and visiting a children's Bible museum (which had a 1535 copy of the Luther Bible Translation - Way Cool!), we really didn't do much. We had a great time getting to know Jacob's new in-laws better, and as well as our host (we stayed with a family in the area).

Paris
After 4 days in Germany we spent 5 days in Paris. Now many of you know that Shari and I were planning to go to Paris for our honeymoon, but it didn't work out and we went on a Caribbean Cruise and to Disney World instead. So, needless to say we were a little excited to go on this trip. We saw all the sites...

Eiffel Tower
Arc de Triumphe
Champs l'Elyese
The Lourve
d'Orsay
Notre Dame
Sacre Coure
The Palace of Versailles

You know all the basics, there were others, but you might get jealous if I right them all out. I'm sure that Shari will post some pictures soon. We had a blast, but I think that Shari and I wore out my parents and possibly my fast paced brother.

Disneyland Paris
Since I started dating Shari she has continually told me of her desire to go to Disneyland Paris before she died. Well, it was on this trip that I told her that I to have had this dream. I in recent years have become a huge fan of the Disney parks. We went to Disney World last March and last July and now Disneyland Paris. It was a blast. We got a great deal on a hotel inside the park. We got free tickets from our families for Shari's graduation. And we just had fun enjoying the parks. Now I can't speak for Shari, but what I like about the parks is the large vision of Walt Disney, and the close attention to detail that is put into everything. That just doesn't happen. Usually vision doesn't accompany detail.

Trip Home
The trip home started about at 3:30 am EST and didn't finish until about 9:00 pm. It was ok and seemed to got faster than the trip there. But it was definitely good to see home again. So about an hour ago I started to write this post it is now 6:30 am (12:30 pm in Paris) and I am still trying to get over my jet lag. Who knows how long that will take.

I will have some pictures up in the near future.

All Nighters after college and before Babies

Since Shari and I are traveling to Europe for Jacob's wedding today Monday and Tuesday I worked 11 hour days at work so that I wouldn't have to take too many days off of work. So I got home at 10:00 pm last night and Shari and I started packing and cleaning (if you haven't been reading - Shari's been sick lately) and Shari complains of an ear ache. Which isn't that far out of the ordinary, but since we have to be on an airplane for about 10 hours in less than 24 hours we thought that we better see a doctor, well, the only place open at midnight is the ER - downtown Grand Rapids. Well, we got there at 12:18 am. We didn't expect to get in very soon because an ear ache is really low on their priority list. We saw a doctor at 2:45 am and were out the door with two prescriptions (an antibiotic and Vicodin for the excruciating pain that will occur upon landing or so we are told).

We get home and realize how much there is to do so we went at it for about 40 minutes and got atleast half-way packed. It's about 4:00 am and Shari collapses on the bed and falls asleep (can you blame the poor sick woman who spent 3 hours in the ER). Then I went on to:

Finalize the hotel details for our trip
Printed off all of our information and organized it
Called Paris (which we can do for free)
Counted and recounted all of the money that we have the trip
Tried to lie down at 5:30 am and couldn't sleep...

Now:
Watching SportCenter and typing this post.

So, do you think staying up all night will effect my jet lag?

Of Speeding Tickets and Last Days

So Sunday, Mother's Day, was our last day at our church. On our way to church I got a speeding ticket. It was like rubbing salt in a open wound, and I knew that it was my fault. People who haven't been nice in a long time were nice (if that somehow makes everything better). People who I wanted to say good-bye to weren't there (some were on purspose).

Leaving the teens was the hardest part. People in the church didn't seem to care. There is no plan for continuing the youth group, and for some of these teens that's all they have. We worry about the teens and we worry about the church, but we have to give it to God. I honestly couldn't tell you if it was a good day or not.

German phrase of the day...

In anticipation of our trip to Germany, Shari and I went to the library and got German for Travelers. So I thought that it might be fun to have a German phrase of the day so that you know that I'm actually learning it.

So here it is...

"Konnten Sie langsamer sprechen?"

"Could you speak more slowly?"

This is my ill atempt to not be the guy that walks around with German for Travelers everywhere he goes.

The Winner

This movie was the winner of a cell phone movie contest and won $5,000! It's only 30 seconds long.

Shari's Graduation Speaker

Shari's graduation speaker was a producer on the the new X-Men III movie. When he stepped up to the podium they showed the theatrical trailer to X-Men III, after it was over there was loud applause (myself included) and he said, "There is nothing like a movie producer giving a shameless plug for his new movie any chance he can get."

Anyway he went on to talk about the Christian's role in culture. He quoted George Barna by saying that only 4% of American culture is effected by Christians (4%)! And 67% is effected by the media. That's crazy! He went on to say that Christians are some of the most prominent members of movie staff (producers, directors, actors, camera persons, etc.) and that it is changing the business. He then quoted another Barna study saying that two hours after a Sunday Sermon 90% of people couldn't tell you what the sermon was about, but months after they watched it people can quote lines from movies.

He said that it is his job to find great literature that exemplifies Christians attitudes and morals and put them to film. And that movies are the new Sunday Morning Sermons!

So I'm going to ask you the reader (lets discuss) why is it that movies have such a great effect on our culture?

A Word of Encouragement

Not for you...but for me.

I don't know what it has been but I have felt tired the last couple of weeks. But yesterday Shari and I went out to lunch with a friend of hers who has become a friend of mine and it was great. She took care of everything and when she talked and listened she really cared. I had to leave early to make it to work and I hated it. I just didn't want to leave. When I got to my car I felt recharged and rested. I felt ready to go another mile.

Thank you

Where Were They Going Without Ever Knowing The Way!

This Song by Fastball back from my junior high days got me thinking about people with an invincibility complex (you know the people..."Nothing bad could ever happen to me!"). We always look at these people as inexperienced or dreamers or even immature (well, they tend to be teenagers). But is this really fair. Is an invincibility complex actually our natural reaction to a perfect world? What I mean by this is that we were created to live in a world without sin, without death, without pain, and without tears so wouldn't it be natural to view the world from this perspective? Let me know what you think.

They made up their minds
And they started packing
They left before the sun came up that day
An exit to eternal summer slacking
But where were they going without ever knowing the way?

They drank up the wine
And they got to talking
They now had more important things to say
And when the car broke down they started walking
Where were they going without ever knowing the way?

Chorus:Anyone could see the road that they walk on is paved in gold
And it;s alway Summer they'll never cold
They'll never get hungry
They'll never get old and gray
You can see their shadows wandering off somewhere
They won't make it home
But they really don't care
They wanted the highway
They are happy there today , today

The children woke up
Ancouldn't couldn't find 'em
They left before the sun came up that day
They just drove off
And left it all behind 'em
But where were they going without ever knowing the way?

Anyone could see the road that they walk on is paved in gold
And it's always summer, they'll never get cold
They'll never get hungry
They'll never get old and gray
You can see their shadows wandering off somewhere
They won't make it home
But they really don't care
They wanted the highway
They Are happy there today , today (repeat)

"To Err is Human"?

So here is my question...If we were created perfect (Adam and Eve), is it really human to sin?

Would we be living beneath our potential as created beings because we sin, and in fact be less than ideally human? ....Less than human?

If we are human than what is God going to restore us to at the end? More than human?

I think the best look we have at our glorified bodies is right in the beginning of Genesis.

This is what happens when you work an 11 hour day doing inventory, counting pencils and notebook paper!

R-U-4-86!

So had a customer that came into the store today...This particular customer is one who comes in quite often so often in fact that we've nicknamed him Dr. Huxtable since he often will wear srubs into the store, and he has this commanding presence that you just can't get away from.

Well, today he came in and I don't mind helping him, he's kind of bossy but not a bad customer. Well, anyway I was helping him and he got a phone call. It was a patient and obviously the woman on the other end thought she was pregnant he was talking her through figuring out whether or not she was, and just seeing an episode of the Gilmore Girls with a prenancy scare, that's the feel I got from the phone call. Well, all of a sudden this "opposite of Dr. Huxtable" started talking about the benefits of RU-486 the latest greatest abortion pill. My jaw hit the floor I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He went on to say that you just take three pills and then you'll have a long menstral period and it will be all over. Then he said something about how she should come in the entrance on the side of the building to avoid the protestors.

All I can say is that I have over the years dealt with abortion by voting republican and trying to forget about it. God always seems to put issues like this back into my head when I forget.

What!?!

So we told the teens that we are leaving on Sunday night. This is what we were dreding. Almost coming to tears the week before was thinking about telling the teens.

They reacted pretty much like we thought they would the ones who are tough acted like it and didn't say much and just wanted to do other things. Some girls cried, and some went into uncontrollable giggles. It was different, one kid was getting on my nerves because he wasn't handling it well. I almost kicked him out.

All in all it went well. I just have to keep reminding myself that God will take care of them.

"Joel...I've eaten all the saltines...we need to shop..."

So I got home from work last night and was met at the door by my wife saying that we needed to go shopping. I thought about it and couldn't remember the last time that we had shopped. Its not like we are starving or anything, but just haven't had time so went shopping...

not a particularly great story but atleast I posted something...

Well, its time for a change...

I read this letter to the church on Sunday Morning.

It is with a great mixture of sadness and excitement that I share some important news with you. For the past year, God has presented the spring of 2006 as an important time in Shari’s and my life. Most of you know that on May 6th Shari will be graduating from Cornerstone University. This brings us to a point in our lives where we are ready for transition and feel God leading us to a new ministry. Because of this, last week at their regular meeting I offered my resignation to the church Deacon Board.

I wanted to take some time and thank you for the wonderful opportunity that you gave one of your own to come and work alongside you and learn more about ministry. Thank you so much for all of the support that you gave us by your prayers, kind words, and volunteering to help with Vacation Bible School, Youth Group or The Net. Our time here has been a blessing on our hearts.

We are extremely excited for the next phase of our lives, because God has offered two excellent opportunities for ministry. We had hoped to know definitely what direction we would be headed in today so we could share that with all or you, but unfortunately we do not. Please pray for us in the next few weeks that we will have wisdom and peace in the decisions we have to make. We will gladly share with you the direction that we are taking when we know ourselves. We are anxious to see what God has in store as we take this next step in our journey of faith.

Our final Sunday of ministry at Ithaca Baptist Church will be on May 14. We will then be fortunate enough to travel to Europe with family for the marriage of my brother Jacob, after which, we will begin ministry with one of the churches. Thank you again for all of your love and support.

The Mystery Penny

So this morning I went to the gas station - I was out of gas. I checked my wallet (I lost my debit card on Sunday) and I only had $18 so I told myself "you can't go over $18." So I did my best. I usually don't care if I go over the dollar amount (The whole Jerry Signfeld AMEX commercial) because I usually pay at the pump. Well, after that I had a ADD moment and wasn't paying any attention and realized right at precise moment and just let go of the pump and it miraculously landed on $18! I was so excited. I couldn't believe what happen I just stared at the $18.00 on the screen. Anyway I put the pump back on the rack and twisted the gas cap back on, and I turned around and just happened to glance at the screen again. Something was wrong it didn't say $18.00 it said $18.01 I couldn't believe it (in case you weren't counting that's two unbelievable moments in less than 10 seconds - I figure that's pretty good). So astonished I went the the car and dug and found several pennies that were glued together from spilled pop in the bottom of the cup dispenser. I pried it out and walked inside barely holding onto this penny. I paid and as soon as that penny left my hand I realized that they had one of those Need a Penny Take a Penny things...Bummer!

11:30 and a sick wife...

So last night I came home from work and was met by a very sick wife. I took her to the Urgent Care Center (that is right behind our house). She had an ear infection and a repritory virus.

Well, we went to Wal-Greens to get Shari's perscriptions and I gave the Pharmasist our insurance information and it wasn't going through...and it wasn't working..."This is not cool! I was getting upset and frustrated. Finally he decided to take the time to call the insurance company...we waited and we waited finally he started talking to someone and then...HE LAUGHED! I was too tired and upset to care what he was laughing about. But he was laughing..."You gave me the wrong birthday for Shari..." I never forget dates. I aced histroy...I don't forget dates... it was rather funny...but probably prophetic for the rest of our marriage.

Desperate for Money

This is nuts...I don't know how big the market would be for this, but I did think that the cookbook would sell very well.

Cable Television

So, I have a brilliant cable provider. They are the biggest in the country! Well, when we first moved in we got a special promotional rate which ended near Christmas. Well, Comcast called at Christmas time and offered us an additional 3 months on the promo rate. So we took it. Well, its been 3 months and all of a sudden our digital cable box turned off and wasn't working. I called comcast and they thought we were having an outage. Four days later when the technician comes to the door he tells me that when the promotional date came and went they dropped me down to this $13 plan which is only supposed to be a few channels, but apparently my TV's can get about 70. So I'm paying a fraction of what I was paying before but getting everything that I had.

Oh how I love Comcast...

Funny Story

So, one of my leaders also works for the State and teaches sex classes for high school students. Part of her curriculum is to teach boy how to put condoms on - so they put them on bananas.

Well, I had to go some where just before our church's children's program got over when I came back a dear elderly lady was waiting for me at the door saying that a parent just called and their child forgot their homework so we needed to find it. This dear eldery lady, who I might add is celebrating her 90th birthday this summer, said that another leader had it at one point. So, I immediately thought to myself that he put it in my office. So that's where both of us headed to.

Well, on my desk there sat a banana with a condom on it. Not wanting this dear elderly lady to see it. I ran over to the desk and hid it from view. She never saw it, and I threw the condom and banana away. But the problem now is that people come and clean the church on Friday's and they are going to find a used condom in my trash can - at church!

What a day

A long time coming

So its been a little while since I've posted. That's ok...

All of my fans will eventually wonder if I'm still writing and pop back over and read this little tidbit of my life.

So the cable downstairs has gone out. It's kind of crazy because I love waking up in the morning and having a couple of hours on the couch before I have to go to work, and watch SportCenter and Fox News. But now I have to stay in bed. I know, I know. Lie down or lie down. I guess I started a rutine and I just don't like to break them too often.

We'll see how it goes and see if I need to do anymore ranting about Comcast in the next couple of days.

She finally tells all

You almost feel sorry for her, and ok. Almost as if she's justified in what she did. That she had good reason. That being said I'm glad Lindsay is out and says that she's done with drugs.

The joys of retail...

Rant

AHH, retail... There is nothing like it. For those you who don't know much about it let me define some words for you so that one day when we're sitting around talking that we will understand each other...(These many only connection to OfficeMax, but maybe not).

Q-Tip - A customer who is tall and all white on top.

senility - What an old man who shouldn't have a computer convinces his wife to buy one and then brings it back w/o a power cord to have us show him how it works.

Ad on - What you didn't think you needed when you come in, but are glad you got after you left.

Cashier - Last person in the building who has the chance to sell you something else.

Greeter - "How can I help you (spend your money) today?"

A quick change artist - Some one who gets a little more change that what they deserve.

A slow change artist - The woman who takes ten minutes to search through her purse because she is sure that she has correct change!

Customer Service - I'm sick of returns!

Just a few. Please add to the list!

Mrs. Wolfgang

So, even though in June she got the name. Today she is officially Mrs. Wolfgang.

Shari is starting her student teaching and we'll see how it goes. She's working in a young 5s class, and has 41 students. Those of you who know Shari know that this is perfect for her.

Personal Narrative Theology

Rant

So, I'm currently reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown (this is the prequel to the DaVinci Code). The further into the book I read I understand that this is Dan Brown's personal theology in story form. I am really facinated by the fact that an author would be willing to think out how he thinks of God and religion and put it into a book.

So, I've personally wondered if I were to do the same thing what would my story-line be. Honestly, and I'm not a Ryerse, I think it would be about husband and wife who move away from most everything that they know and do something that they completely believe in.

Either that or something about cavemen and dinosaurs.

Cheap Monday

Rant and Rage

So interesting. Although I'm a Christian, they look cool. What an interesting story for American media to exploit. That's all we need is for some "Dobs-n-like" organization to get upset over the ordeal, and blow it up so that Cheap Monday makes a lot of money. HMMMM! I want a pair!

Who Knew...

Rant

So, tonight was the first time in six months that I've spent time with both of my bothers. Well, we called my dad and had him meet us in Grand Rapids, but he missed his exit and was an hour late, but it worked out to be ok.

Jacob figured out the password for my wireless router which is nice so that I can have people over that can get on my network. What are brother's for?

All in all a really good night.

Is it just me...

Rant

So I'm watching the Alamo Bowl and I knew that I had a former teammate playing football for Nabraska, but it really just hit me. This guy wasn't all that good when I played with him. It would be really nice if I were able to play division 1A football in a nationally televised Bowl game.

How small a world this might be.

For those of you who wonder. Chris Patrick #54 - o-line. Taught him everything I knew.

Wow!

So it looks as if this blog is so popular that I get wonderful ads placed in the comments. I can't believe it! This is so exicting.

Now I know that their are those out their who have programs to see when I publish something on this site. So maybe those people should leave a comment or two every once in a while.

Just a thought Justin!

What?

You know I've been around the block a couple of times when it comes to blogs, and I think I signed up on every other blog site out there, and I don't know what I want. I really kind of like this site because most of my friends use this site. I think I made up my mind.

Ashlee proving she's Jessica's sister

This is a story about the defunked popstar's reaction to the boos cast in her direction at half-time of the Orange Bowl.
